Listening project to gauge sense of well-being at transit centres
An unorthodox research initiative called Auricle is returning to Edmonton this year to learn more about how safe and well people feel in transit centres.
The project isn’t just about looking at things like the number of security guards at a transit station, said Natalie Napier, InWithForward’s lead of research and storytelling. Instead, the project aims to explore the factors that influence people’s sense of community, as well as reach those who are normally left out of traditional engagement methods.

Alberta Avenue residents gather stories to study health of neighbourhood
Hundreds of personal stories collected in Edmonton's Alberta Avenue neighbourhood could help the City of Edmonton better measure residents' well-being.
InWithForward, a Vancouver-based social design firm, hired 10 residents of the core neighbourhood to gather short stories from neighbours this summer.
The residents, known as "local listeners," are participating in a research project called Auricle.

Exploring well-being with Auricle
Well-being is something we constantly grapple with. Are we happy enough? Have we achieved everything we should? Are we doing as well as our neighbors?
Instead, we should be asking ourselves what exactly well-being means. Auricle is a prototype being piloted in Alberta Avenue. It is designed to explore what well-being looks like from the lived experiences of individuals, rather than from assumptions of what well-being “should” look like.
